Typically after such a wet start to the year, we could now do with a little bit of rain to help things grow! It’s right what they say about farmers never being happy about the weather, it’s always too wet, too dry or too windy. Thankfully this dry spell has enabled us to mow some of our herbal leys which we have now baled ready to store for winter. Richard was busy last night starting to muck out the polytunnels where he’ll be storing the hay until later in the year, when it’ll be used to feed the sheep when they come inside ready for lambing. He’s having a rare day off today to visit the NSA Sheep Event in Malvern with Sue, so no doubt tonight we’ll be sat discussing sheep breeds and grassland species.

Next week sees the farm shop open again, on Friday 9th and Saturday 10th August. We pretty much sold out of meat during our July opening, so please do let us know as early as possible if you’d like to place an order. Although we always try to provide a little extra for anyone dropping in, the only way to guarantee availability is to order in advance (so we know how many pigs, sheep and chickens we need a couple of weeks ahead).

Keep an eye out on our social media pages for details of availability; we’ll be doing some pork boxes up again this time, they sold out very quickly in July so seem to be a popular option!

As it’s nearly 12 and I’m under strict instructions to check water all around the farm at midday (I’m expecting a message to remind me any minute now!) I’d best go give the pigs a mud bath as they can struggle in this heat if they can’t keep themselves cool. So over and out for now!
