The calm before the storm…..
Last month we let the bosses go on holiday for a few days before the long nights started drawing in. After many weeks of complaining about a lack of rainfall off they went to Northumberland where they found plenty of it! They came back well rested and relaxed before we get into the wet cold nights of feeding sheep and trudging around fields in the muck. Another litter of piglets were born earlier this month too, so we’ll be enjoying them by next summer!
This week Richard brought home a nice red rosette from Louth Livestock Market for his pen of lambs, and today he’s busy bringing the ewes home to put them in the polytunnels ready to pregnancy scan them all. Once they’re scanned and we know how many lambs they’re each having we can separate them off into different pens and feed them accordingly.
In Christmas news, we’ve taken the decision not to open the farm shop during Christmas week this year. Instead, we’ll be doing lamb and pork on 12th & 13th December (9am-1pm) and giving ourselves Christmas week off (it’s busy enough with the sheep in by then!). We’ve already sold out of pork for December, but we are still taking lamb orders up until the open days. As always, we do need to know a couple of weeks in advance to absolutely guarantee availability, so if you’d like anything in particular (or large quantities) then please let us know by Saturday 29th November. After this we may still have a few chops and joints available but we’ll have already been to the abattoir then so once we’ve sold out we’ve sold out! As we don’t buy in meat, it’s all our own, we can only sell what we have ready in the shop; we can’t suddenly magic up an extra couple of legs of lamb a few days before we open so we really do need orders well in advance if you need anything in particular.
We’ll have another shop opening in late January (date TBC) before we start lambing, so there’ll be more pork and lamb ready in the new year.
I’d like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for your custom throughout the year. It’s amazing how we’ve reduced our opening times yet we’re still seeing new faces each month and demand is as high as it’s ever been. So thanks to you all for the past 12 months, and we look forward to seeing everyone back for more pork and lamb in the new year.
